A Gainesville woman has been identified as the victim of a fatal traffic accident that happened Saturday on Interstate 85 in the Duluth area.
Taliah Freeman, 32, was the passenger in a 2006 Ford Expedition that got into a wreck shortly before 5:00 a.m. with a tractor trailer north of Pleasant Hill Road, according to Cpl. Michele Pihera, public information officer.
Freeman and and the Expedition's driver, Steven Haynes, 35, of Monticello, both got out of the vehicle, which had spun out and come to a rest in the center of the interstate, perpendicular to traffic.
"(Haynes) got out of the vehicle to make a phone call to 911. (Freeman) got out to retrieve something from the back seat. As they were both outside the vehicle, a third vehicle came along that didn't see them," said Pihera.
That vehicle, a 2005 Pontiac Montana, hit both Haynes and Freeman.
Freeman died at the scene, and Haynes was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to Pihera.
No charges have been filed against any of the drivers involved, and police are asking any potential witnesses to come forward with information.
Police also advise drivers never to exit their vehicles on the interstate. Pihera said drivers should call police and wait for assistance, while remaining inside with seat belts fastened.
