MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The University of North Georgia baseball team scored the first two runs of the game and never trailed on the way to an 8-6 win Sunday afternoon against Montevallo. North Georgia finishes Peach Belt Conference play with a 14-16 record in league play after the win.
Trevor Sams got the Nighthawks on the board in the first inning with his 11th homer of the season, a two-run shot to left that put the Nighthawks up, 2-0.
UNG put another two runs on the board in the fourth when Steven Tomlinson hit a two-run homer to left center, his ninth of the season, stretching the UNG lead to 4-0.
After two Falcon runs in the bottom half of the fourth, Sams earned his third RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly in the fifth that scored Devin Gearhart to put UNG up, 5-2.
Montevallo tied the game up at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth on two RBI singles and a RBI groundout. In the inning, the Falcons had three singles, a walk and a hit by pitch.
In the seventh, Gearhart drew a leadoff walk and come around to score on a Sams RBI single to make the score 6-5. After a quick bottom of the seventh, Connor Hoover led off the eighth with a triple down to the corner in right field, and Conner Corbitt brought him home in the next at-bat on a single up the middle. Two batters later, Erick Delgado brought Corbitt across the plate on a double to left field that put UNG up, 8-5.
Montevallo added a single run in the bottom of the inning and had runners on second and third with two outs before Brandon Agar struck out Daniel Pardo. The Falcons were in the same situation in the bottom of the ninth and Agar went on to strike out Taylor Walker to end the game with an 8-6 score.

The Nighthawks go on their final road trip of the season as they go up to Central, S.C., to make up a rained-out game against Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
