ATLANTA — Georgia Tech's annual Spring Game was primarily a defensive affair with the White team prevailing 13-3 over the Gold team in front of roughly 9,000 fans.
Justin Thomas led the victors with 79 yards rushing, plus a touchdown pass to Ricky Jeune.
The White squad featured the first team offense and second team defense, while the Gold roster consisted of first team defense and second team offense.
Safety Shaun Kagawa set up White's first scoring with an interception after teammate David Curry tipped a TaQuon Marshall pass. The junior safety returned the ball 39 yards inside the 10-yard line, resulting in a 25-yard field goal by Harrison Butker.
Butker added a second field goal from 27 yards later in the first quarter after Thomas broke loose for a 76 yard gain. White's final score came late in the half with Thomas finding Juene in the back right corner of the south end zone from 25 yards.
Gold's lone score of the day came from a Shawn Davis 35-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Marshall led Gold with 68 yards rushing, and redshirt freshman A-back Omahri Jarrett ran for 52 yards on just five carries. True freshman B-back Dedrick Mills, an early enrollee who joined the team in January, was impressive running the ball for the Gold squad with 47 yards.
"I think, all in all, we've had a decent spring," Coach Paul Johnson said afterwards. "I think we've been able to move some guys around and do some things. We've got a ton of work to do this summer and in the offseason."
Both teams demonstrated excellent ball security with no fumbles on 79 rushing attempts.
Saturday's game concluded four weeks of spring practice for the Yellow Jackets. The team is now off for the remainder of spring semester, which ends May 5. They'll welcome the incoming freshman class in June and begin fall camp in August in preparation for their season opener against Boston College in Dublin on September 3.
