Brenau University has witnessed quite a bit of women’s history over the last 137 years – among many others, the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, the passage of Title IX in 1972 and the appointment of Sandra Day O’Connor to the Supreme Court of the United States in 1981.

And, now comes Wednesday's announcement from the U.S. Department of the Treasury that Harriet Tubman will be the new face of the $20 bill.

Interestingly, Brenau’s Gainesville campus is already home to a homage to the iconic abolitionist and human rights pioneer. Renowned Colorado sculptor Jane DeDecker bestowed a bronze statuette titled “Harriet Tubman and Child” to the university in September 1997.

The artwork is displayed near the Brenau Trustee Library, right outside the entrance of the Thurmond-McRae Lecture Hall.
