BULLS GAP, Tenn. - Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C. took the lead away from Dale McDowell on lap 24 and never looked back in route to his second-career Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series victory at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn. Saturday night.

It marked Madden’s second Spring Thaw victory and netted him a $10,000 payday.

The 60 lap feature saw Rick Eckert and McDowell bring the field to the green flag. McDowell jumped to the early lead, but as he began to work lapped traffic around lap 11, Eckert closed the gap. Lurking in the short distance was Madden, who eventually made the pass for second spot on Eckert on lap 14 and set his sights set on the leader.

On lap 20, McDowell and Madden raced side-by-side for the top spot. On lap 23, Madden made the move in turn three to take the top spot and never looked back.

Meanwhile, Marlar grabbed the runner-up spot away from McDowell on the 30th lap as the race ran caution free. Madden crossed the line ahead of Marlar to take the victory, with McDowell in third, Eckert in fourth and Donald McIntosh in fifth.

The Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series will be back in action on Saturday, April 23 for a 50 lap, $6,000-to-win race at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway.
