As a way to honor four Forsyth County public safety personnel who fell in the line of duty, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recently approved the renaming of four roads – two memorializing fallen deputies and two memorializing fallen firefighters.

Two of those roads were officially dedicated recently. Sections of North Old Atlanta Road have been renamed for Deputy Bill Cantrell and Reserve Deputy Larry Mulkey, who were shot and killed in 1972 after being abducted during a traffic stop. The ceremony was held to dedicate “Deputy Bill Cantrell Memorial Road” and “Larry Mulkey Memorial Road.”

Plans are being made for dedication ceremonies for the two roads renamed for the fallen firefighters.
