A Buford man is in jail, suspected in a series of sexual assaults in the north Gwinnett area over the past seven months.
Gwinnett County police arrested Equeill Williams, 22, and charged him with rape, armed robbery and kidnapping in an incident that happened Wednesday night at the Golden Buddha Restaurant on Buford Drive. Investigators said a 28-year-old woman told them she was loading a take-out order from the restaurant into her car when she was approached from behind by the suspect. He told the victim to get into the back seat of her vehicle or he would shoot her. Investigators said the suspect took her credit card, choked her and then raped her inside her vehicle. The suspect then fled the scene. A police report said he later used the victim's credit card to withdraw $100 from an ATM at a nearby bank.
A press statement from police did not say what led them to Williams.
Police also said there were two other sexual assaults and one attempted assault in the same area over the past seven months involving a young black male suspect. Based on evidence that has been developed thus far, police said Williams is suspected in all of the cases.
Those incidents occurred on April 4 at a Walgreen's store on Sudderth Road, on March 3 at a Rite Aid store on Nelson Brogdon Boulevard and on August 17, 2015 at an apartment complex in the Buford area. The incident report on the August 17 assault did not name the specific location where the crime occurred.
