The Hall County Government Spring Cleaning Project, which was originally scheduled for Friday, April 1 but was postponed due to the threat of inclement weather, has been rescheduled for Friday, April 22, which is Earth Day.
The one-day event dedicated to picking up litter on County roadways is in response to elected officials' concerns.
"There are so many areas of the County that are kept pristine, but I still receive complaints from constituents regarding litter on a number of area roads," District 4 Commissioner Jeff Stowe said. "I wanted to make sure we responded to those complaints and addressed the litter issue in our area."
Under Stowe's direction, Hall County officials have been identifying County roads that have a strong litter presence. A number of Hall County Government employees have volunteered to gather at the Hall County Landfill on one day during the month of April. There they will be disbursed in groups to pick up trash along the roads that have been identified as high-litter areas. Once the various roadways are clean, participants will bring their filled trash bags back to the Landfill, where they will be weighed.
"We want to set an example as a leader in the community for litter pick-up and prevention, and hopefully this effort will be able to quantify-in pounds-the need for litter clean-up, prevention and education throughout the area," said Stowe.
The Hall County Government Spring Cleaning Project is a part of a month-long emphasis of litter prevention and clean up by Keep Hall Beautiful in conjunction with Earth Day on April 24 and the Great American Clean-Up.
