ATHENS — Lee McCoy of the Georgia men’s golf team has been chosen as one of the 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award, which is given annually to the top golfer based on collegiate and amateur competition.
McCoy, a senior from Clarkesville and a Habersham Central graduate, is currently No. 6 in the GolfStat.com rankings, as well as No. 8 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. McCoy has two wins under his belt this season to bring his career total to six victories. That leaves him one shy of the school record, as only PGA Tour members Chris Kirk and Russell Henley won more times in their Bulldog careers.
On Tuesday, May 3, the list of 10 semifinalists will be pared down to three finalists. The three finalists will attend a black- tie banquet at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, on Monday, May 23, where the winner will be crowned.
The other semifinalists Charlie Danielson of Illinois, Sam Horsfield from Florida, Beau Hossler of Texas, Michael Johnson from Auburn, Maverick McNealy of Stanford, Matt NeSmith from South Carolina, Jon Rahm of Arizona State, Robby Shelton from Alabama and Aaron Wise of Oregon.
McCoy and the Bulldogs will be back in action at the Southeastern Conference Championship from Friday through Sunday. Live scoring can be found at GolfStat.com.
