WINDER — Gainesville's 4-1 loss to Winder-Barrow Wednesday dropped both teams into a tie for second place in Region 8-AAAAA behind No. 3 Loganville.

The Bulldoggs (14-4, 11-2 Region 8-AAAAA) scored four runs off LSU-signee Jonathan Gettys before he was forced to leave the game with a lower leg injury. Gainesville coach Jeremy Kemp said Gettys will be examined Thursday.

No. 1 Gainesville (14-4, 11-2) could not muster much of a rally against Winder-Barrow starter Casey Thurmond, who tossed a complete-game, four-hitter. Thurmond retired the final 18 batters he faced.

Jack Langford relieved Gettys in the first and was outstanding pitching 5 1/3 innings of scoreless ball while striking out two. He allowed just three baserunners.

Thurmond also had two RBI and Beau Hanna belted a two-run home run off Gettys for the only runs for the Bulldoggs.

The Red Elephants only run came in the second when Langford drove in a run on an infield single with the bases loaded. But they could not add on.

Gainesville next will travel to Cedar Shoals on Thursday while Winder-Barrow travels to Clarke Central on Friday in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Gainesville's Jonathan Gettys was tagged for a season-high four runs Wednesday in a loss to Winder-Barrow before being forced to leave in the first inning with an apparent injury.
