Baseball: Chestatee rally falls short against Stephens County

TOCCOA — Chestatee rallied for three runs in the seventh but it wasn't enough as the War Eagles fell 5-4 to Stephens County Monday in Region 8-AAAA action.

Chestatee (6-12, 3-6 Region 8-AAAA) led 1-0 in the third but the Indians (9-12, 5-6) answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to grab the lead. Stephens County added three more in the fifth to pull away for a 5-1 lead.

Chestatee scored three times in the seventh to pull within 5-4 and had the tying and go ahead runs on base but could not  get the equalizer.

Braxton Nicholson started for Chestatee and gave up five runs, just three earned, in 4 2/3 innings allowing 10 hits and striking out two. Trip Lemay pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief for the War Eagles.
 
Austin Sargent and Will Cantrell had two hits apiece to lead a nine-hit Chestatee attack. Sean Irick had a hit, a stolen base, one RBI, and scored twice for the War Eagles. Christian Carter, Kyle Garrett, Joe Sutton, and Mikey Petraroi each had one hit for Chestatee.

The two teams will head to back to Chetstatee on Wednesday in the second game of a home-and-home series.
