Drought returns to Hall County, other parts of northeast Georgia

Despite all the rain that fell during the winter, drought conditions have returned to parts of northeast Georgia.

The U.S. Drought Monitor reports that drought conditions exist in all or parts of several area counties - including Hall, Barrow, Banks, Jackson, Habersham, White and Lumpkin.  Those areas are considered "abnormally dry," the least-severe of the categories used by the agency in determining the extent of a drought.   The same is true of several counties in extreme southeast Georgia around the Okefenokee Swamp.

The past three weeks or so in the Gainesville area have been virtually rain-free after a three-month period in which there was some measurable rainfall every week except for one or two.
