Gainesville man arrested after swapping son's medication

A Gainesville man was arrested on an outstanding warrant this week for taking his son's medication and replacing it with a placebo.

Dennis Lane Johnson, 46, was arrested for cruelty to children in the second degree at his home on Paces Court, according to a press release from Lt. Scott Ware with the Hall County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad.

Johnson allegedly took his pre-teen son's Adderall and replaced it with what authorities believe was sugar between December 2014 and September 2015, Ware said. As a result, the child struggled with behavioral and emotional problems at school.

Once the swap was discovered, the child resumed his medication and his problems at school ceased.

Johnson was arrested without incident and booked into the Hall County Jail Tuesday.
