ASHLAND, Va. — Heading in to the bottom of the ninth, the Piedmont baseball tea, needed just three outs to walk away winners against No. 5 Randolph Macon, but instead it was the Yellow Jackets who picked up three runs in a walkoff victory 3-2 against Piedmont.

It was a pitcher's duel early as it was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Lions scored the first run of the game after Josh Tate singled to start the inning and was sent home by a Brady Ballstadt single. Piedmont added another run in the sixth inning leading it 2-0 when a leadoff walk issued to Evan Gresham proved costly as Michael Barnes singled to score the second run.

Max Bening pitched his longest outing of the year going seven innings for Piedmont allowing no runs for the second time in his five appearances. Bening struck out seven batters, a career best for the freshman, and posts a 2.81 ERA which is second best on the team.

It wasn't until the bottom of the ninth when Randolph Macon's bats went to work as they tied the game on a two-RBI single to center field. The second out of the inning was recorded but not before both runners on base moved into scoring position allowing another single to score the game-winning run for the No. 5 Yellow Jackets.

Piedmont will travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina for a series against N.C. Wesleyan Friday-Sunday including the Vs. Cancer Foundation game on Saturday.
