FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The USA South Athletic Conference has released the Player of the Week listing and Piedmont baseball swept the rookie awards with Brady Ballstadt earning USA South Rookie of the Week while Matt Vonderschmidt took USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week. This marks the second time this season that Piedmont baseball has swept the Rookie of the Week awards with the same pair of athletes earning the honor both times.
For Ballstadt this marks his third Rookie of the Week honor this season through eight listings making him one of two players this year to earn the award three times. Ballstadt has started each contest of the season for Piedmont and is batting .286 this season with 26 hits and 16 RBI. Ballstadt has made a pair of grabs in center field that have been astounding including one that made its way to No. 2 on the SportsCenter Top 10 countdown.
Vonderschmidt is the only pitcher in the league to be named USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week twice this season in eight weekly listings. Vonderschdmit posts a 3-0 record with a 3.00 ERA in his freshman campaign through 14 appearances on the mound. He has pitched 24.0 innings for the Lions giving up just eight earned runs and striking out 18 batters.
The USA South Athletic Conference announces its weekly honor roll each Monday and at least half of the teams in a sport must have competed within the previous week for honors to be awarded.
