When the 2016-17 school year begins, one of White County’s schools will have a new name.

As part of the recently-approved elementary school structuring, White County Intermediate School will be  transformed into a K-5 school, resulting in a name change.

The White County Board of Education on Thursday approved naming the facility Tesnatee Gap Elementary School.

Board Chair Kendyl  Brock-Hunter explained the process.

"We've learned in the past it is very important to get community involvement, so now as a charter system we have our governing council, so that's where it all originated," Brock-Hunter said. "They got feedback from the kids in the school, parents in the school, the community, business partners, and collectively they came up with Tesnatee Gap Elementary."

Brock-Hunter said it will take a little time for the transformation to take place, with signage and letterhead and such.
