DEMOREST — After taking an early lead on the Hawks, the Piedmont College baseball team was unable to keep pace with Huntingdon dropping the final game of the series 6-3 at Loudermilk Field. The Lions moved to 15-8 this season and 3-6 in USA South play with the loss.
Breck Davidson had a memorable day as he was 3-for-3 at the plate with his 14th double of the season, leading the team, and now sits atop the Piedmont College career record book for the most doubles in a career with 42. Davidson topped Mike Santowski's record of 41 from 2004-06 with a double in the fifth inning.
The Lions led 1-0 after a sac-fly by Evan Gresham in the bottom of the first, but the Hawks came back to tie it in the fourth inning at 1-1. Huntingdon would take the lead in the fifth inning putting up five runs and ending Ross Martin's day on the mound as the sophomore moved to 1-1 taking the loss.
Piedmont trailed 6-1 but added a run in the bottom of the fifth off Davidson's record-setting double and tacked on another in the eighth inning on a Caleb Norton sacrifice fly scoring Davidson.
The Lions will be back in action at home Tuesday night taking on MIT at 7 p.m.
