Hall County STAR student Andrew Hathcock was named  the 2016 Region 2 STAR student at a Tuesday night ceremony at the Dahlonega campus of the University of North Georgia.

Hathcock, a senior at Chestatee High School, competed against STAR students from 13 other systems at the PAGE STAR Gala.  Hathcock will now go on to compete against STAR students from other regions of Georgia at the State PAGE STAR Student Banquet in Atlanta on April 18th.

Hathcock named Gary Martin, a teacher at the DaVinci Academy as his STAR teacher.  Hathcock and Martin were recognized at Tuesday evening’s ceremony as the Region 2 winners.

The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation sponsors, administers and promotes the PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program.  To obtain STAR nomination, graduating high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the three-part SAT, and be in the top 10-percent of their class based upon grade point average.

Hathcock will be attending the Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall, majoring in Materials Science and Engineering.
