Baseball: Dragons drop first 8-AAA contest on the road

WATKINSVILLE — Jefferson dropped its first Region 8-AAA contest of the season after falling 4-2 to Oconee County Tuesday on the road.

The Dragons (7-3, 3-1 Region 8-AAAA) never led as oconee County (4-7, 1-3) brole a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the fourth. Jefferson cut it to 2-1 in the fifth but the Warriors added two runs in the sixth. The Dragons scored one run in the seventh and got the tying run to the plate but could get no closer.

Jefferson left nine baserunners, including four in scoring position. Taylor Wilkes took the loss despiote going the distance and yielding just seven hits while striking out seven.

Wilkes, Hunter Thompson, Zac Corbin, and Lane Watkins each had two hits for Jefferson.

The Warriors will play host to Oconee County on Friday in a double header.
