A New Hampshire man deliberately rammed his car into a jewelry store in an early morning burglary in Gainesville Monday, police said.
Jack T. Hogan, 28, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, faces a list of charges in connection with the burglary of Dimo Fine Jewelry on Browns Bridge Road.
Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said a witness actually saw the silver car run into the building. The suspect, later identified as Hogan, allegedly stole several items from the store and then drove off.
"There was a great deal of damage," Holbrook said describing the building. "They have huge, metal, roll up doors, that actually encase the whole facility, so the individual eventually rammed through those doors to make entry."
He said police caught up with Hogan in the area of Brown's Bridge Road and Skelton Drive. Hogan crashed the vehicle along Browns Bridge Road at Green Crest Drive when officers tried to pull him over, according to Holbrook.
Hogan suffered minor injuries in the accident and was arrested without incident, police said. He's charged with first degree burglary, DUI and failure to maintain lane.
Officers were able to recover items taken in the Dimo burglary. "There were some undisclosed items found in the vehicle from this crime, as well as possible other crimes in the area," Holbrook said. More charges are possibly forthcoming from other jurisdictions that are directly related to Hogan."
