Hall GOP gears up for busy local election season

The dust has now settled from Georgia's presidential primary this past Tuesday, but there's still a long way to go in this election season, especially as the May 24 General Election approaches.

Hall County's Republican Party will be extra busy over the next several months, making sure voters get information not just on the presidential candidates, but also on local candidates who will be qualifying for office next week.

Local party chairwoman Debra Pilgrim said in an interview with AccessWDUN last week that her first goal is to get through next week's qualifying (Monday through Friday afternoon) and then her plan is to educate voters in Hall County.

"We'll continue to have our conservative forums, we'll continue to educate people as to why it is so important to vote, continue to educate as to how our government works," said Pilgrim.

In fact, Pilgrim said it's vital to teach people how government works because so many do not have a basic understanding of the process. She's hoping local Republicans can organize a forum soon, but first, she said is the looming General Election. That means, once local candidates qualify, the Hall County GOP will coordinate debates, so voters can meet the candidates.

"You know, I'm a firm believer that you don't beat somebody into submission to get them to change their minds," Pilgrim said. "You show them the facts and you show them plans and you show them how things are going to be accomplished. That way, they can make an informed decision."

There are no dates on the calendar just yet for debates or educational forums, but Pilgrim anticipates those dates will come soon.

One date that is firm is the date for the Hall County Convention on March 19. It will be held at the local headquarters on Queen City Parkway in Gainesville.
