On Wednesday, State Representative Carl Rogers announced that he would not run for re-election for the District 29 House Seat, a position he has held for the past 22 years.
Friday morning, Gainesville businessman Matt Dubnik became the first person to declare a run for the post.
In a press statement, Dubnik said the decision to make his first foray into politics did not come lightly.
“I’ve wanted to serve our community in this capacity since I was a young adult,” Dubnik said. “After much prayerful deliberation, my wife, Katie, and I came to the conclusion that this is my way to, as her grandfather James Mathis Sr., used to say ‘pay a little rent’ to this community we have called home almost our entire lives."
Dubnik described himself as a conservative Republican.
He is an alumnus of Lakeview Academy and Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his Bachelor of Science in management and information technology from Georgia Tech.
According to his press information, after working as an information security specialist for Siemens Energy and Automation, Dubnik transitioned his career to nonprofit fundraising, serving as a regional director for Ducks Unlimited where he was responsible for leading more than 500 volunteers statewide in their efforts to raise $1.8 million dollars annually for wetland conservation efforts. In 2009 he joined Full Media and later became a Partner and Vice President of Internet Marketing. Currently, he serves as the Chief Engagement Officer of Forum Communications, a full service strategic marketing agency based in Hall County.
