ATLANTA — Legislation allowing guns on Georgia's public college campuses comes before a key Senate committee on Monday.

The state Senate's Judiciary committee already testimony for several hours Wednesday but didn't vote on the bill.

The Georgia House already has passed the bill, seeking to allow anyone licensed to carry a gun in the state to carry concealed handguns on campus. Athletic facilities and student housing, including sorority and fraternity houses, would be exempt.

The powerful Board of Regents, which governs the University System of Georgia, has long opposed changes to current law preventing weapons on campuses.

House Speaker David Ralston has strongly supported the measure. Gov. Nathan Deal has not opposed it, saying that a "wild west scenario" did not follow the legislature's 2014 expansion of where people can carry guns.
