ATLANTA — Georgia golfer Lee McCoy was selected as the Collegiate Athlete of the Year by the Atlanta Sports Council at the Atlanta Sports Awards on Thursday at the Fox Theatre.

The Habersham Central graduate had one of the most celebrated seasons in Georgia history during the 2015 portion of his junior year. He was named First-Team All-America, All-Region and All-SEC after winning a school-record-tying four tournaments and breaking the single-season school scoring average record. Behind McCoy, the Bulldogs reached the semifinals of the NCAA Championship.

After his collegiate season, McCoy was a member of the United States Walker Cup, Palmer Cup and Pan Am Games squads and he reached the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur. He also played in the U.S. Open and two PGA Tour events.

The other finalists for Collegiate Athlete of the Year were Georgia Tech swimmer Andrew Kosic and Georgia State softball player Ivie Drake.

"I am very proud to receive this award on behalf of Georgia golf," McCoy said. "We win as a team and we celebrate as a team, so I accept this award for my teammates and our coaches. I had such an overwhelming amount of support during 2015. You never set out with the intention of trying to win an award. All I wanted to do was represent Georgia collegiately and America in the international events to the best of my ability. 2015 was a year that I'll never forget, and I am so appreciative of this recognition."
