After a dominant weekend at the Diamond9 Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports, Meredith Heyer and Courtney Poole were honored as the Peach Belt Conference AstroTurf Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The Nighthawks went 5-0 on the weekend with four run-rule victories, outscoring opponents 39-2 on the weekend.
This marks the first career conference honor for Heyer who hit a .714 clip (10-for-14) with a 1.429 slugging percentage on the weekend. She collected six extra-base hits with four doubles and two home runs, driving in seven runs while scoring five herself and also stole five bases on the weekend. The Marietta native provided the spark that lit the UNG offense on fire this weekend, driving in the first run in four of North Georgia's five games.
Poole continued her dominance this season going 5-0 on the week, starting all five of UNG's games at the Citrus Classic, pitching all but two innings last week. The Watkinsville native allowed just 11 hits and two walks in 28.0 innings pitched, giving up just two runs for a 0.50 earned run average with an incredible 49 strikeouts on the week.
North Georgia will return to action this weekend at the Mid-South Classic in Spartanburg, S.C., playing a pair of games on both Saturday and Sunday.
