It took about 90 minutes for Gainesville Police to take a suspect into custody Friday afternoon, following a standoff outside a hotel room.

A 911 call about a domestic disturbance came in around 1:00 p.m., said Sgt. Kevin Holbrook in a phone interview, and police found two people barricaded inside a room at the Sun Suites hotel on Jesse Jewell Parkway.

"It ended peacefully ... During that situation, an individual barricaded himself into a hotel room, at which point we began negotiations," said Holbrook.

The other person in the room is believed to be related to the suspect.

Negotiators were able to get the suspect to release the victim, and eventually police were able to get the suspect to surrender as well.

"I don't know that we would call it a hostage standoff, but it was a domestic-related incident. It's still early for us to release details of the crime," said Holbrook.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office assisted in the incident, said Holbrook.

The Sun Suites hotel was also the site of a murder in January 2015, though it is unknown if the two incidents are related.
