TUCKER, Ga. (AP) Authorities said a mother and her two young daughters have died in a house fire in Tucker.
Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Tommy Rutledge said that a two-story home was engulfed in flames late Tuesday, killing a woman and her 9-year-old and 11-year-old daughters.
Rutledge said the unidentified woman's husband made it out of the house with non-life-threatening injuries. Rutledge said the father told authorities his wife and daughters were upstairs getting ready for bed. He said he heard a popping noise downstairs and went to investigate. He realized the home on was on fire and yelled for his wife and daughters to get out of the house and then exited the home. Rutledge said the father realized that the others were unable to escape. He made attempts to re-enter the home to save his family, but was forced back due to intense heat and flames.
A press release from the fire department said the body of the third victim - one of the children - was recovered around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
At this point, the names of the victims has not been released.
Authorities say the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and an investigation is ongoing.
