High school students—and parents—who want to learn more about Piedmont College can now make a “Virtual Visit” to the college’s Demorest and Athens campuses.

“Visiting colleges is an annual rite for high school students who want to find out more about where they will spend the next four years of their educational lives,” said Cindy Peterson, Dean of Admissions at Piedmont. “Sitting in on classes, exploring the dorms, and even tasting the food in the dining hall are all part of the process of moving from high school to college.”

And while you can’t taste the breakfast bacon, Piedmont’s Virtual Visit does allow students to ramble around the campus and find out “virtually” everything—from where classes meet in the academic buildings to where students spend their off hours in the new Student Commons.

“Visiting Piedmont online is the next best thing to an actual visit,” Peterson said. “It makes a lot of information available at your fingertips. The Virtual Visit includes an interactive map of each campus so you can find information and photos of academic buildings, fine arts venues, athletic facilities, and residence halls with just a click.”

“Short videos take you all over campus, introducing you to faculty and students, and cover academics, athletics, and student life,” Peterson said. The Virtual Visit can be found at piedmont.college-tour.com.

Peterson said the best feature of the new virtual tour is that visitors can quickly find the information important to them. “This tour is very ‘random access,’ so you can jump from housing to theatre venues, or whichever area you are interested in, just like that,” she said.

Amy Amason, Vice President for Advancement at Piedmont, said the Virtual Visit fits neatly with the revamped website the college added recently.  “I especially want to thank all of the students, faculty, and staff who helped with this project,” she said. “Brian Carter, our Web Coordinator, worked with StudentBridge of Atlanta, one of the leading companies in creating interactive tours for colleges. Together, their experience in organizing information and creating videos helped us get right to the heart of what it means to be a Piedmont student. You can immediately get a feel for the campus, the small classes, and the interest that faculty members have in helping students succeed,” she said.

Peterson said the Admissions Office was looking forward to sharing the Virtual Visit with prospective students, but she noted that there was one button on the virtual tour that is particularly important. “That’s the link that says ‘Schedule a Visit,’ because we still want students to come and see our campus—for real,” she said.
