A new gymnasium will be built at George Pierce Park in Suwanee.

Gwinnett County Commissioners approved a $3.2 million construction contract Tuesday using funds from the SPLOST program. The facility is an addition to the existing Community Recreation Center.

The 18,212 square foot facility will feature a full-sized basketball court and elevated indoor track, as well as two overlay courts for volleyball and badminton.

“This project is a great use of the voter-approved SPLOST and supports the recreational needs of our community, particularly seniors who are looking forward to using the elevated indoor walking track," said Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash.

The 304-acre park already features a football field, five soccer fields, nine baseball/softball fields and more than three miles of trails.
