TOCCOA - One person was seriously injured when two people fell from Currahee Mountain in Stephens County Saturday morning.
The call was received around 8 a.m. after two individuals fell off the ledges on the well-known mountain where World War II paratroopers trained.
One individual fell to a spot where he was stranded while the other fell a long distance and suffered injuries, said Stephens County Search and Rescue Chief Dave Shanks.
The other individual fell "probably 60 to 70 feet and suffered some pretty serious injuries," Shanks said.
Crews rappelled down to and retrieved the stranded individual and helped that person walk out.
Stephens County SAR personnel were assisted by Stephens County Emergency Medical Services, a couple members of the Habersham Technical Rescue Team and a volunteer firefighter, according to Shanks.
"Our guys have been training in that area pretty extensively," Shanks said. "It paid off."
No names of those who fell have been released, and Shanks said no information about their conditions was available Saturday night.
