No one has been injured and no structures are in danger, but given the recent destruction caused by wildfires in North Georgia, crews are working to get a handle on a fire sparked Friday morning by a car accident on the Richard B. Russell Scenic Highway 348. The wreck occurred on the Union County side of the highway.

According to a social media post from the U.S. Forest Service-Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests, about 50 acres has burned so far near Tesnatee Gap just off the Appalachian Trail near the Raven Cliffs Wilderness.

Crews with both the U.S. Forest Service and the Union County Fire & Rescue Department are working to contain the fire.

The team has named the blaze the Bad Santa Fire.
