LULA — The Lula City Council will proceed with engineering of sewer lines to service property along Ga. 365 between Athens Street and Ga. 52.

Monday night, the council voted unanimously to spend $79,975 for the city's engineering firm to proceed with design work for five sections of sewer lines, including two on the northbound side of Ga. 365 and a bore under the highway.

City Manager Dennis Bergin, in seeking pricing for the design work, had separated Line G (N.) from the other sections in case the amount came in more than the council was comfortable spending. That section connects to an existing sewer line that crosses Ga. 365 just south of Athens Street.

Bergin said once the engineering is done, each line, or section thereof, will be put out for bids. He said the city engineer believes the lines could be built for about $640,000 if no right-of-way acquisition is required.

Funding for the engineering will come from the city's water and sewer infrastructure portion of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax 7, the council decided in a separate vote.

Additionally, the council voted for Bergin to apply for competitive financing for the project.

The Lula City Council has approved nearly $80,000 for engineering of five sections of sewer lines between Athens Street and Ga. 52 on Ga. 365. Those sections, shown, include G (S.), E (S.), E (M.), G (ALT. 2), and G (N.).
