Winder Police made two arrests this week while following up on a citizen complaint that alerted authorities to ongoing criminal activity inside city limits.

The complaint was filed on December 9, and alleged that a residence on East Wright Street was involved in unspecified drug-related activities.

Winder Police Lt. Chris Cooper say officers determined that the home was the residence of Eddie Ramon Turner, 35, "who was on felony probation for prior drug cases."

"Officers went to the house and knocked on the door and were greeted by Mr. Turner's wife, 36-year-old Heather Turner," Cooper continued. "When Ms. Turner opened the door, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the home."

The encounter led police to obtain a search warrant. While waiting for the warrant to be approved, Cooper said Eddie Turner returned to the home.

After obtaining the search warrant, authorities conducted a thorough search of the residence, which Cooper said uncovered a number of illicit substances.

"The search uncovered a pistol-caliber carbine rifle, a bag containing a quantity of suspected cocaine, a quantity of suspected marijuana, prescription narcotics, digital scales and several mobile devices," Cooper noted.

He added that the bag containing suspected cocaine was found in a bathroom that authorities believe was used by three young children who lived in the home.

Cooper said that the couple was arrested at the home and transported to the Barrow County Detention Center.

Eddie Turner faces the following charges in the case:

Cooper said that Heather Turner was charged with the same offenses, "excluding possession of a firearm by a convicted felon."
