SUWANEE — Suwanee city council gave its approval Tuesday night to a group of street projects throughout the city, including the rehabilitation of the Martin Farm Road bridge.
The projects were grouped together into a single entity, totaling $279,937, and it includes striping along Brogdon Road, Scales Road, Settles Bridge Road and Eva Kennedy Road.
Work on the Martin Farm Road bridge, located near the Suwanee Creek Greenway, would likely begin early in 2017, according to Marty Allen, city manager.
"We would like to do some rehabilitation work to make sure that the load bearing it has does not decrease," said Allen.
The bridge currently can handle up to 10 tons, according to signs posted on either end; work will likely start early in 2017.
"Barring weather we should begin immediately. It's not an enormous amount of work. It's rehabilitation work, so it's not going to close down the bridge for any extended length of time," said Allen.
It is possible, however, that temporary closures could occur as crews work on the bridge, but Allen said those shouldn't last too long.
The contract was awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. of Snellville.
