FLOWERY BRANCH — The Flowery Branch girls overcame their worst offensive night of the season to hold off Loganville 45-36 Tuesday night in a crucial Region 8-AAAAA contest.
The Class AAAAA No. 1-ranked Lady Falcons (9-1, 3-0 Region 8-AAAAA) trailed 4-0 before finishing the first quarter with a 7-0 run to take the lead.
Julianne Sutton recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to pace Flowery Branch. Queen Scott also had 13 points for the Lady Falcons.
Leading scorer Taniyah Worth had just six points but pulled down nine rebounds as Loganville (4-6, 1-2) focused its defense on taking her out of the offense.
Despite offensive troubles, Flowery Branch managed to take a 20-16 lead at halftime. The Lady Falcons pushed it to 32-26 heading into the fourth quarter and pulled away down the stretch.
Flowery Branch now will gear up for a showdown with No. 2 Buford (5-0, 2-0) on Friday at home in a battle for first place in the region standings.
