LAVONIA -- UPDATED: Officials say the man who shot two Lavonia police officers during a traffic stop Monday night is from South Carolina.

Khari Anthony Dashaun Gordon, 22, of Greenville S.C., "fired upon the officers, striking both," according to GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles. "The officers received non-life threatening injuries and were both transported to an area hospital for treatment."

Gordon was arrested about 11 p.m. and is charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder, and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, Miles said. Additional charges are pending.

The incident occurred when officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Zaxby's on Ga. 17 near Exit 173 on Interstate 85, Miles said.

Officers from Franklin, Hart, Stephens, Habersham, Banks, and Madison counties, the Georgia State Patrol, Lee Arrendale State Prison K-9 Unit, and other agencies assisted in the search for the offender, who was on foot.

St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital was locked down during the manhunt but that was lifted upon confirmation of the capture around 11 p.m.

This investigation remains active and ongoing.
