DEMOREST — The Piedmont College women's basketball team took on Oglethorpe University in day one of the USA South/SAA Classic, winning the contest 73-62 early Saturday evening.
The Lady Lions came out of the locker room with a quick start scoring less than a minute into the first quarter when AMARI PRICE found DAKOTA SULLENS for an early layup. The first period went back and forth with Oglethorpe taking it by one, 13-12.
To start the second quarter, PC went on a seven point run to surpass the Stormy Petrels with this trend continuing throughout the second as the Lady Lions went back to the locker room leading 34-26.
After halftime Piedmont battled in the paint putting in 14 points from inside compared to the Stormy Petrels four points in the paint. The score going into the final quarter showed Piedmont 55, Oglethorpe 42.
The Stormy Petrels struck first in the fourth with a jumper as they began to try and chip away at the 13 point lead. The two teams went back and forth, but Oglethorpe never got the run they needed to get the win as the Lady Lions took it 73-62.
