JEFFERSON — Jefferson churned its way to 136 total yards of offense on Friday night.
Thanks to a rampaging Dragons defense that proved more than enough.
Jefferson stonewalled West Laurens, limiting the Raiders to 70 total yards -- 2 in the first half -- as the Dragons pulled out a 21-0 win in the two teams' Class AAAA second round playoff showdown in Jefferson.
The slugfest cleared a path to next week's Class AAAA quarterfinals -- where Jefferson will travel to face Cairo after losing a coin flip to the Syrupmakers late Friday night.
Certainly Jefferson's defense looks ready for the showdown -- though the Raiders own defense proved it too was playoff worthy on Friday.
The visitors limited the Dragons (11-1) to 48 yards in the first half -- though Jefferson did pull ahead 7-0 thanks to a two-yard touchdown run from quarterback Colby Clark. But the Dragons could not mount much more in the second half, finishing with 88 yards after the interval.
West Laurens could not keep Colby Wood in check all night, however, and the junior running back made it 14-0 with 30 seconds left in the third quarter, scoring from two yards.
It proved just the appetizer for Wood, who feasted in the fourth quarter, ripping off a 53-yard touchdown sprint to seal the game. Wood's 16 carries for 89 yards proved the only positive rush yards for Jefferson. Clark also completed 5 of 10 pass attempts for 50 yards.
The Dragons will make their fourth quarterfinal appearance in five seasons next week.
