A Gainesville attorney has been appointed to President-elect Donald Trump's transition team for the state department.
"...to make sure that we have a smooth transition so that President Trump's policies and his key personnel transition smoothly," Ashley Bell said.
Bell, a periodic co-host on WDUN's Morning Talk and former Hall County commissioner, will be on what's called a landing team.
"So the landing team is responsible for basically doing the policy analysis of where we stand currently on foreign policy and with the different positions within the state department," Bell said.
He said the team will relay the information back to the president-elect to help with his state department personnel choices.
Over the past couple of months during the campaign, Bell has served as a senior strategist at the Republican National Committee.
"I'm very fortunate and honored to be asked by the next President of the United States to take on this large responsibility. Humbled," Bell said.
According to the Trump transition website, the state department team is made up of six people, including Bell. The announcement was made Friday.
