DEMOREST — The Piedmont College women's basketball team tipped off their 2016-17 season in Cave Arena earlier Tuesday evening with a 52-39 win over Birmingham Southern College.
Piedmont had a slow start falling to a 6-point deficit to the Panthers halfway through quarter number one though the ladies rallied before the quarter ended.
With the score knotted at eleven, it was sophomore Jatasia Bailey who led the Lady Lions out of the early stall by knocking in three shots from beyond the three-point line before the halftime buzzer.
At the half, Piedmont led 27-14 though the Lady Lions came out of the locker room scoreless until almost three minutes into the third when Bridgette Kelly put in a layup to restore the Lady Lion momentum.
Piedmont led 39-23 after a jumper from Carlie Shields landed with nine seconds left in the third quarter.
The Panthers outscored PC in the final quarter, but it was not enough to close the gap as PC claimed the win.
