CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Truett McConnell men's basketball team fell in a tightly contested ball game to NCAA Division I opponent The Citadel, 119-90, in an exhibition matchup Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs jumped out quickly and took a 23-7 lead over the Bears through the first 6:55 of the contest. TMU responded by cutting the lead to 10, but The Citadel continued to stretch its lead to as many as 20 at 45-25.
From that point, the Bears went on a big run, cutting the lead to as little as five with 30 seconds to play in the half. TMU kept the game close until the Bulldogs went on a big run with eight minutes to play, extending the lead to the 29-point final score.
David Campbell Jr. led the way for the Bears from the field with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Tylor Brown had 17 points, while Willie Stallworth finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
The Bears will next jump into AAC play as they travel to Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday, with tip scheduled for 4 p.m. in Athens, Tennessee.
