Firefighters from Jackson County are among those helping to combat the wildfires burning across North Georgia.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) summoned the additional help Sunday, according to Jackson County EMS Director Steve Nichols.

Personnel from the fire departments of Jackson County, Jefferson, North Jackson, Harrisburg, Nicholson, West Jackson and South Jackson were among those fighting the fires.

Some of the crews planned to remain on scene until 6 p.m. Monday, while others anticipated a 24-hour shift, remaining on scene through Monday night.

"We ask to keep them in your prayers," said Nichols in a news release.
