Citizens of Lula have voted to approve a referendum that will allow restaurants and other establishments to sell distilled spirits by the drink.

The special election item was approved by a tally of 450 to 326, or about a 58 percent to 42 percent margin. It will allow the beverages to be sold only for consumption on the premises.

Both Banks County and White County also approved alcohol sale referendums during the election.

Banks County voters approved a Sunday beer and wine package sale referendum by an 11 percentage point difference.

In White County, citizens voted yes to three different alcohol-related ballot items, each with at least 60 percent of voter support. The voters approved a "Liquor by the Drink" referendum, similar to the one passed in Lula, as well as a Sunday "Liquor by the Drink" item. Also approved was a Sunday beer and wine package sale item similar to the one passed in Banks County.
