CLEVELAND — Bill Ballard announced Tuesday that he has stepped down as the White County football coach after six years.
Ballard said he plans to stay on as the head track coach and help wherever he can.
“Bill is a very unselfish man and cares about the student athletes at White County. He has had tremendous success at other schools and gave up a lot to move his family to the mountains," Principal John Osborne said.
"At this point in my career, I’ve been doing it 26 years and I kind of reached the point where being the head coach was a little bit too much for me on a daily basis," Ballard said. "I’ve gotten to the point where I’d like to be an assistant coach and help somebody.”
Ballard said the resignation is effective end of this school year.
White County Athletic Director Alan Griffin said they will begin its search immediately for the next head football coach. The process will involve a search committee and at least two rounds of interviews. Griffin said there is no set timetable for hiring a new coach.
White County finished 1-9 in 2016 and di not make the playoffs.
