Retired Gainesville textile executive, community leader dies

A retired Gainesville textile executive and community leader, Bob Painter, has died.
 
Painter, who was 82, died Friday.  The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 at the Gainesville First United Methodist Church, where he was a longtime member. 
 
Painter moved to Gainesville in 1969.  He was a Plant Manager at Chicopee Manufacturing Company in Athens and Gainesville until his retirement.  He served on a number of community service boards including Action Ministries, the Board of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, the Chamber of Commerce, United Way and Rotary Club.  Painter supported the Northeast Georgia History Center and the Good News Clinic.   He was the Rotary Club of Gainesville’s Man of the Year in 2002, a Paul Harris Fellow and Will Watt Fellow, and he was the president of the Rotary Club from 1989-1990.
