A Cornelia woman has been ordered to prison for two years after being convicted of vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal accident that killed a motorcyclist.
Ruby Marshall was sentenced Thursday. She had been convicted by a Hall County Superior Court jury last month.
In addition to two years behind bars, Marshall, 66, was ordered to serve eight years on probation. According to the Hall County District Attorney's Office, conditions of her probation include not operating a motor vehicle while on probation, having no contact with the family of the victim, and undergoing drug and alcohol evaluation and treatment.
The state had recommended a 15-year sentence with seven to serve.
The accident happened in October 2014 on Pea Ridge Road in Hall County and took the life of Jerald Freeman. Initially, the state patrol believed Freeman had lost control and ran off the road and crashed but further investigation determined that Marshall ran him off the road and failed to call for help. She was arrested three weeks after the incident, according to state troopers.
