Head-on Habersham wreck injures two people

CLARKESVILLE — A head-on wreck near Clarkesville injured both drivers Wednesday morning.

The wreck happened just before 8 a.m. on Ga. 197 between Rodeo Circle and North Mize Road and involved a 2005 Pontiac G6 driven by Andrew Dunlap and a 2004 Toyota Highlander driven by Kirsti Louise Matson of Lula, according to Cpl. Casey Coffee of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

Dunlap's car was traveling southbound on Ga. 197 when the driver failed to maintain his lane of travel and entered the northbound lane of Ga. 197, Coffee said. The car then struck the northbound Highlander head-on.

Dunlap was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free by firefighters from Clarkesville, Demorest and Habersham County. He was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Matson also was injured and was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The wreck shut down Ga. 197 until nearly 9:30 a.m.
