Gainesville High School senior Anna Diaz was selected as a Commended Student in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise, according to the Gainesville City School System's weekly newsletter.  They are among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

"We, at Gainesville High School, are so proud of Anna Diaz for being named as a National Merit Commended student. Anna had to post an outstanding PSAT score to achieve this outstanding honor," said GHS Principal Tom Smith.  "She exemplifies a student in constant pursuit of academic excellence. We also salute the outstanding educators within GCSS that have prepared all our students for the rigor necessary to be successful on the PSAT."
