Two area volleyball teams continued their runs toward a state championship Saturday afternoon -- one of which made history.
In Class AAA, North Hall advanced to its first-ever semifinal with a 3-0 sweep of Greater Atlanta Christian at the North Hall gym. The fourth-seeded Lady Trojans next will travel to top seed Westminster, which swept Haralson County in straight sets, on Wednesday.
North Hall claimed three close sets -- 25-22, 25-18, and 25-23 -- to take the match.
Autumn Tucker paced the Lady Trojans with 20 kills, 18 digs, and one ace. Lily Paschall added 30 assists, four kills, and two aces, Melissa DeVerter had five kills, 14 digs, and five blocks, and Lena Strickland 16 digs and one ace for North Hall.
Savannah Miller had four kills, one block, and three digs, Caroline Brady two kills, one block, and four digs, Grace Hollifield had two kills, and Maci Gillespie had four digs for North Hall.
Meanwhile, 2015 Class AAAA champion Buford moved into the Class AAAAA semifinals with a 3-0 sweep of South Effingham Saturday in the state volleyball tournament at at the Buford gym. The Lady Wolves, who will play host to the Ola-Veterans winner on Wednesday, are the top seed in the Class AAAAA tournament.
In Class AAAA, Jefferson fell to top-seeded Blessed Trinity in straight sets and was eliminated.
