Elections director: First week of early voting in Hall County extra busy, no glitches

Early voting numbers in Hall County have surpassed expectations, according to Elections Director Charlotte Sosebee.

 

At the end of the first week of advance voting, 8,019 voters had cast early, in-person ballots. There are more than 108,000 registered voters in Hall County. 

 

While neighboring Gwinnett County had issue with long lines and hours-long wait times, Sosebee said that was not the case in Hall County.

 

"There were no glitches; everything ran smoothly, Sosebee said in an email. "We had lines from time to time each day, but voters were processed quickly."

 

Sosebee said maximum wait times were 30 minutes.

 

She also said she noticed some voters taking extra time at the voting machines to read through the ballot, especially the four proposed constitutional amendments. Sosebee said her office tries to make that process easier for voters.

 

"With our approach of offering a sample ballot and/or summary of the amendments early on in the line area, the voter cast their ballots quicker than they would if seeing the ballot for the first time when he/she starts the voting process," Sosebee said. "This was something we did back 2008 that did speed things up once entering the voting booth."

 

Advance voting continues Monday through Friday up until November 4. Next Saturday, October 29, is also a voting day.
